Fly-by: brb, enjoying Thanksgiving dinner

I am of course working today (our store only closes on Christmas Day), but thankfully it will be a morning shift, and will most likely entail a few regulars coming in having forgotten cranberries or extra cream or something. Then there’s Black Friday tomorrow, which usually isn’t too bad.

In the meantime, I’m going to take it easy and enjoy the day and the food. See you next week!

Fly-by: where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing

It’s been a busy couple of months here, and I suppose it’s finally time to reveal why I’ve been MIA here at the blogs. The short version? We’re moving!

The slightly longer version is that said moving has involved all sorts of paperwork, banking, thinning out of stuff we no longer want, packing stuff we want to keep, setting appointments to get utilities up and running, more paperwork, and shopping, all while working the Day Job, and that’s left me with not that much time to work on writing, let alone posting blog entries or even getting any daily stuff done on 750Words. [There’s also the fact that I just happened to pack away my journals as well, so those haven’t been updated for some time either.]

It’s going to take a bit longer before I’m back up and running again, alas. I’ve been sneaking in some editing of A Division of Souls when I can just so I don’t fall behind on my planned ‘remaster’ release schedule, but that’s about all I can muster at this point.

So yes, I’m still here! Hopefully within a few more weeks things will be back to normal. Thanks for your patience!

A day in the life

It’s been a whirlwind of a morning between our internet completely crapping out for some reason and having to reboot it…and receiving some incredibly awesome personal news a short time later! So yeah, I’m a bit behind on things right now and it may stay that way for a few more weeks. More on that later!

In the meantime, the above song popped up on KEXP this morning and I still say that playing that final chord on one of the original pianos in Studio One at Abbey Road is one of the coolest and most mind-blowing things I’ve ever done in my life. Today comes close, but this still tops it. 😉

Fly-by: brb, distracted this week

Whoops! Sorry for the lack of posting this week. I was called for jury duty on Tuesday and it kind of put a kink in the week’s schedule. I’ll be back to normal next Tuesday!

In the meantime, here’s yet another super-local band I’ve discovered called above me, and they channel that 90s fuzzy-jangly version of shoegaze that I recall enjoying so much back in the day. [They’re so super-local that nearly the entire video takes place in the northwestern corner of this city, mostly in my neighborhood!]

Fly-by: Feeling knackered

WHOOF. It’s been kind of busy at the Day Job these last couple of days as the weather has been unexpectedly hot in these parts (in the 80s and 90s and super sunny, which is VERY unlike the west side of SF). This means that we’ve been getting a lot of business, keeping me on my toes.

Alas, this didn’t give me enough time to create a decent post. So instead I’m just going to hang out with the cats and have an early night instead.

Fly-by: Some Days I Drink My Coffee By the Grave of William Blake

Did a lot of catching up this week of things I let slide last week…and alas, I ran out of time to write a post here for Thursday! Not worried, though. Some days are like that.

In the meantime, the new (and very long-awaited) non-soundtrack album by The The is an interestingly somber affair; it feels like Matt Johnson chose the theme of coming to terms with mortality for this. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, but I’m definitely loving it.

Fly-by: busy week

Oof. Sorry I don’t have much to say here today, as my day job schedule is kind of heavy on the back end. In the meantime, I’ve been revisiting my U2 collection lately and remembering how much I still enjoy them. I’ve always liked them from the beginning (I actually remember seeing the “I Will Follow” and “Gloria” videos on early MTV), but I didn’t really get into them until the 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire, specifically the title song, which remains one of my favorite early tracks of theirs.

See you next week!

Short hiatus time

Unfortunately I am falling behind on a lot of my writing work lately, so I’m going to be taking a few weeks off to catch up. It happens from time to time…whether it’s the Day Job sapping my energy or other non-writing things taking precedence now and again, I just run out of space on the schedule. It’s not my favorite feeling, to be honest, and sometimes I have to sacrifice things here and there. It’s not always to catch up, either…sometimes it’s just to give myself a mental and physical break to rest.

Not to worry, though. I shall be back soon!
